Francis Shergold was squire of the Bampton Traditional Morris Men for over 50 years. He also sang a few folk songs and here he was recorded singing “Needlecases” in 1987.
Bampton Traditional Morris Men - One dance inside before the evening session outside
A custom developed with the Bampton Traditional Morris Men to do one dance indoors, where they’d just had tea, to the sound of their bells and feet only to get their legs going again after a rest. This short film was taken in 2009.
